Hittite Empire

Next up is my hastily painted Hittites. I'll say now, I'm not overly happy with the bases which are basically just PVA and sand with the odd bit of gravel and yellow grass. I should have done more, maybe painted the sand or textured the bases first.

So, first up is the 1xLCh(Gen). He's the one with the red feather.

And heres the support chariots - 3xLCh.

And here are the Ps - one of these is optional.

And the optional replacement for 1x2Ps is the 1x7Hd. A bit blurry as I have no photographic skills whatsoever.

And finally part of the 6x3Sp. I was going to detail the shields but decided to leave them plain as I would probably have ruined them.

So why hastily painted ? Because I've got a DBM army to paint ! I've already started the Numidian contingent so hopefully they will be finished in a weeks or so (depending on how often I actually sit down and do some painting).

Washing up is beckoning.........

Sung Chinese

So, onto the Sung. I completed these the other day and I've now finally got my first matched pair for DBA.

Please click each image to view a larger picture.

All figures are Essex and this army has all the options hence more than 12 bases.

So the first up is the Cv (Gen). Here he is in all his glory, looking like he's about to fall off his horse.

Next up is the Cv.

The Hd and the Ps.

And here are the Bd. Although hose look like spears to me. I've seen other peoples photos of their sung Bd units and they are the same figures so they must be right (?).

And now the Cb or bows.

The Art units - wasn't really sure exactly how these glued together but I think I guessed right. I was expecting 2 people per base but they look okay as they are I think.

And finally the Bw and Bd units.

I can't say I really enjoyed painting these guys as I was unable to find much info on the clothes etc. So I basically painted some of them exactly the same colours I've seen on Fanaticus and other sites. The rest I just made up. I particularly like the Art guys in their black with gold trim pajamas (althouth I'm sure they aren't called that).

Next up are the Hittites who are currently sat on nails in the garage soaking up some black undercoat. After that should have been the New Kingdom Egyptians BUT theres two reasons to delay them :

  • they were originally going to be a HoTT army so I bought chariots driven by sabre tooth tigers and Bd's with animal heads. I'm not sure if people will accept those figures for DBA so I'm wondering wether to just buy the proper versions.
  • more importantly, I've played one game of DBM and ordered my Carthagian army from Essex. With the help of my gaming mentor (Andrew Parkin if you must know), we (okay he, I just looked confused and started crying) worked out I could get Gallic, Spanish, Roman and Numidian DBA army packs plus a couple of elephants and some odds and sods. This means I will have LOADS more DBA armies. God I hope I have enough paint.... :)
More soon !

Early Samurai

The Early Samurai are the first DBA army I have painted. I purchased the figures second hand for £5 which I though was a pretty good deal. All the figures are Essex miniatures.

EDIT : It may be worth noting that I had read somewhere that the early samurai did not have banners. Unfortunately I was dead set on them having loads of banners so I decided to ignore the historical facts and did them anyway.

Click on the pictures for an larger view.

First up is the the whole army in all its glory.

Cavalry including the generals unit (which is easily spotted as it has 2 banners)

One of the Cavalry units.

Next are the Auxilia units.

And heres the Bow.

And now for a side view and a top down view to show off the banners and basing.

The figures were painted using the cheap acrylics found in most hobby shops.

The bases are 2mm MDF purchased online somewhere. After gluing on the figures the bases are then covered in polyfilla. when dry cover the base with PVA and dip in sand. Paint the entire base black. then drybrush various browns then glue rocks, static grass and clumps of field grass.

The banners were downloaded, altered, shrunk, then printed out on normal paper. Glue two opposite side together make then quite sturdy. Open out a paper clip, paint black then superglue banner. Finally paint the edge of the banner red to match. Superglue to figure, one per base except the general which has two.

Excellent !

Next up should be the Sung Chinese which are on theior way to completion. The HoTT army(ies) are done but awaiting upload.

Whats this all about then ?

A new day and a new blog. Apparently 70,000 new blogs are created every day. Or is it week ? Anyway, this is just a placeholder really until I get my photos uploaded.
